Monitoring the update cycle will make planning better. Though planning comes first, regular monitoring and update of work will less likely to fail.
Update activities or driving resources
1. To improve future estimates, take note ‘who did what’ and ‘how much it cost’.
2. Record the time frame for each activity or resource, time work accomplished and the remaining time require to finish the activity.
3. For P3, make sure the data is correct – actual-time-record durations, quantities and costs.
Schedule project
Gather all the data and schedule the project. Use the progress spotlight and update progress features of P3.
Compare reported progress to the original plan
This is the best way to know if the project is on track.
Level resources
Check for availability of resources. Also, historical and current data could be compared to gauge trends in resource use and make future-use projections. P3 could also change data that affect calculate level dates.
Analyze output
Review the Bar chart together with resource profiles. For problems check matrix reports and other schedule reports.
Adjust the schedule
If project is behind schedule, stretch and optimize resource (work periods), use different types of P3 constraints to make activity network reflect project requirements.
Communicate
Updating the schedule to the whole team. Use report, Bar charts and time scale presentations.
